What is it? Produced in partnership with the Escondido Union School District (EUSD,) the Escondido Youth Media Festival gives EUSD students the opportunity to enter digital Video, Photography, and Music/Audio media projects for consideration by expert judges. The event includes a Showing of all works nominated for prizes and an Awards show that is an experience unto itself! Exhibitors, such as the Photo Arts Group, Media Arts Center, My Story program from the CA Center for the Arts, and Bear Valley Middle Schools TV team give visitors more ways to learn about the world of digital media. Free and open to the public, the Festival reaches out to all EUSD schools, giving them a new kind of outreach and connectivity with the community and beyond. Why is it important?
Business, communications, and every other aspect of our life now is managed through computers and increasingly, hand-held devices. Did you know that Escondido Union School District is a national and international leader in the innovative field of educational technology? Well, it is! This event showcases the amazing prowess of EUSD students in all grades as they use these emerging tools to advance their learning and development.
Who participates? Students from all 23 schools learn about the festival in late winter. Over the first two years, more than 200 Kindergarten through 8th grade students from most EUSD schools submitted their own original, digital projects. The Foundation brings together experts from many fields that use digital technology as judges, exhibitors, and sponsors. The Digital Expo, Showing and Awards attract community members, business leaders, and the proud families of the participants. The Media Festival unites diverse people around the promising talents of our young people.
